Baile Herculane
General information.
The Baile Herculane spa is one of the oldest resorts in the world, with a record dating back over 1848 years. Baile Herculane is a part of the National Park Valea Cernei - Domogled and is renowned for its beauty. Its attractive location in the valley of the River Cerna, at an altitude of 160 meters (on the same parallel as Nice and Venice) makes for a pleasant Sub- Mediterranean climate.
Historical information.
Baile Herculane is the most ancient Romanian spa and one of the most ancient resorts from all over the world, well known even from the Roman times. Its first attestation is from year 153. Beginning with 1718, during the Austrian period, the resort developed a lot. After 1736, the frontier guards from Banat region built most of the important edifices from the resort, influenced by an impressive Austrian baroque style. Through the time, many important people who enjoyed the therapeutic virtues of the thermo-mineral waters have visited the spa. One of its visitors from the Roman times is the Emperor Marcus Aurelius with his mother Iulia. From the Austrian period we remind you of the Emperor Franz Iosif and the Empress Elisabeth (Sissi) who both visited the spa. In 1852, Franz Iosif considers Baile Herculane the most beautiful resort from Europe.

Continental climate, with influences from west and southwest (Mediterranean). The average temperature is 10.5 C
Natural curative factors.
The waters are thermo-sulfurous and the air is rich in negative ions.
Mineral resource content.
Thermo-sulfurous waters: 8-70 mg/l sulfurated hydrogen concentration, T. 40-55 C, flow capacity: 0.1-7 l/sec .

Locomotion Apparatus and Nervous System affections; sequels after Locomotion Apparatus trauma; breathing problems; chronic gynecological disorders; incipient diabetes mellitus; heavy metals intoxications; digestive disease; eyes problems; overweight syndrome.
Treatment procedures.
Hydrotherapy, electrotherapy, massage, functional rehabilitation, gymnastics and acupuncture. Contraindications. Acute affections, tumors, TBC, pregnancy, epilepsy, psychic disorders, hemorrhagic syndrome.

The Ferdinand Hotel welcomes you to its 5 apartments and 45 double rooms overlooking the beautiful valley of the River Cerna. The Hotel offers superb accommodation, leisure and conference facilities to organized groups, tourists and businessmen. Each room has a color and cable TV set, telephone (international dialing), en-suite bathrooms, independent heating and air conditioning facilities. Located in the serine and pastoral forest in the hotel grounds, the Garden Restaurant offers an impressive variety of typical Romanian dishes and is the ideal place to relax and enjoy the un-spoilt nature. Ferdinand Hotel offers different kinds of therapy as hydrotherapy, electrotherapy, massage, acupuncture, homeopathy, Gerovital and Aslavital. The hydrotherapy treatment includes: underwater showers and massages, galvanic baths, herbal baths, ascendant and alternating baths, partial and general steam baths, shower, massage. The electrotherapy treatment includes: ultraviolet-rays, infra-rays, ultra-short waves, ultra-sound waves, microwaves, ionization, galvanization and faradism, laser, aerosols, magnetodiaflow, diadynamics.
